“We feel that the SPCA is a very worthwhile organization as it promotes the betterment of the lives of dogs, cats and other animals in our community. We support the SPCA’s animal fostering program rather than euthanizing unwanted pets. The SPCA encourages people of our community to foster challenged (less than perfect) animals. The SPCA encourages people to take the initiative to spay or neuter their own pets so the burden of unwanted pets is not so great on society as a whole.
The Prince Albert Kennel & Obedience Club and the SPCA encourage and support each other in the fact that we both promote the betterment of all pets whether they are purebred, registered or mixed breeds. We both promote responsible pet ownership. We are pleased to be able to support “The New Lea sh on Life” building campaign with a $7,500.00 donation. We feel that this will only enhance the lives of the pets in their care.” |

| For Vic and Janet Lemieux, helping the Prince Albert SPCA wasn’t a difficult decision to make. As pet owners themselves, and with Vic’s own SPCA volunteer work, they knew that the current shelter on Exhibition Drive needs replacing and are willing to do what they can to help.“We realized the dire need of a new facility is overdue,” said Janet, who presented a cheque to the SPCA for $80,000 on Thursday with her husband and son Curtis, who owns Econo Lumber.
“The (current) building isn’t even fit for animals, let alone staff or volunteers,” added Vic, who used to own Econo Lumber. The SPCA is currently fundraising to build a new shelter in the North Industrial Park, with hopes of starting construction in the spring. The new building would feature more kennel space with easy-toclean cages, a medical area and two off-leash parks — one for small dogs and one for larger pets. |

The SPCA's New Leash on Life Building Campaign continued to gather community support earlier this month, thanks to a pancake breakfast sponsored by Humpty's Restaurant and Prince Albert & District Community Futures. Everything needed for the June 8 breakfast was donated by Robert and Lisa Dunn, Humpty's owners. Robert and Lisa, who adopted "Bella" from the SPCA last year, said they wanted to help out because the SPCA has a growing need for financial support to continue the great work it does in the community. George Vass, General Manager of Community Futures, got his organization involved because they are always looking to support great causes in the city, with either financial assistance, organization, promotion, event staffing, or a combination of these. Pictured with a $1650 cheque for the proceeds from the breakfast are George Vass, Lisa Dunn, Robert Dunn, and SPCA General Manager Debbie Lehner.
Carlton Comprehensive High School held a 'Gong Show' on May 25th.
All proceeds from the show were donated to the
Prince Albert SPCAs 'New Leash on Life' Campaign.
